Short definitions, in the order you're likely to meet them.

| Handle | Your name on the Atmosphere, like @you.bsky.social |
| DID | Your account's permanent identifier; your handle points to it |
| PDS | The server that holds your account's data |
| Community identity | The account that owns every space, @off-the-clock.us |
| Space | A permissioned area of the community: general or a group's space |
| General | The space every member is in |
| Grant | An admin's record naming a person and the spaces they may use |
| Invited | Granted a space but not joined yet |
| Space admin | Someone who runs one space |
| Community admin | Someone who runs every space |
| Feed | A rule that picks records from a space, and an order |
| Label | An admin's mark on a post, attachment, or account: nsfw, spoiler, or shadow |
| Policy | A space's house rules, accepted before reading or posting |
| AppView | The service that indexes the spaces and answers reads |
| Feed generator | The service that turns feed rules into lists of records |
| Community session | The connection that lets admins write as the community |
