Architecture overview

Off the Clock is four Rust crates and three services around one community identity that owns every space.

The shape

Draft outline

From the architecture deck's "shape" slide:

  • otc-common: identity, spaces, sync, lexicons, membership.
  • otc-appview: the AppView and the spaces' managing app, did:web:api.<domain>.
  • otc-feedgen: the feed generator, did:web:feeds.<domain>.
  • otc-web: the server-rendered front end with TypeScript islands, and the only OAuth client.
  • The mirror of Bluesky's stack: otc-web ≈ social-app + bskyweb, the AppView ≈ packages/bsky, the feed generator ≈ a #bsky_fg service.

Diagram, not a screenshot: the four boxes, the community's PDS, members' PDSes, and arrows for sync, reads, and writes. Redraw the deck's shape slide.

Who talks to whom

Draft outline

Members' browsers talk only to otc-web. otc-web talks to members' PDSes (writes) and proxies to the AppView and feed generator. The AppView and the feed generator sync spaces from PDSes with space credentials.
